I received this for Christmas having initially asked for the hand held version. I'm glad I got this one because I won't be feeding it batteries and I anticipate using it a lot since I shop in bulk and cook once a month for freezer storage. However, the retractable vacuum tube on the unit is a bit touchy. The first time I used mine, I pulled the tube out too far and wasn't able to get it to retract at all. Since I was planning to keep it in the box, I decided it wasn't that big a deal since the unit still functioned as it should. However, I decided to call customer service in case they had some tips on fixing it. I was connected very quickly to someone who determined that it was likely the tube would not retract again and she immediately set up a warranty replacement that was shipped that same day. I asked if they wanted me to ship the first one back and she said no. So, now I'll have two. I have only used the bags with the sealer and I haven't experienced any of the problems the previous reviewer experienced. No problem closing the bags or in the time it took to evacuate the air from the bag. I look forward to lots of use and I'm glad that Food Saver stands behind their product!
